Nemesis rollercoaster to close down after 30 years

The iconic ride, that was built in 1994, is temporarily shutting down in Alton Towers due to its refurbishment in preparation for its 30-year anniversary in Staffordshire.


One of the UK’s most loved theme park rides, it’s closure came as a shock to many as it turned 28 in 2022.


Designed by John Wardley and Werner Stengel, the famed attraction gained many fan across the nation for its unique design of twists and turns.


One of the last riders of Nemesis, Ben Clarke, said: “What an amazing experience. Nemesis is an incredible rollercoaster and I’m so happy I got to ride it one final time before it's given a revamp.”

The rollercoaster that cost £10 million to create will re-open back up in 2024 in time for its anniversary.


Kate McBirnie, Head of Product Excellence at Alton Tower’s: “Nemesis is Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster, which has been exciting thrill seekers since 1994.


“The legendary rollercoaster is loved by thrill seekers across the UK and beyond, and we want to give fans of the ride the opportunity to experience Nemesis in its current form before it closes on November 6.”
