Titled a “gay icon” by many fans, Lycett spoke in a video directed to Beckham on the issue supporting Qatar for the World Cup on 13th of November. This comes as a result of Qatar's controversial laws against LQBTQ+ and human rights.
The comedian said in a video: “Qatar was voted as one of the worst places in the world to be gay and David Beckham is the first premier league footballer to do photoshoots with Attitude.”
Joe claimed the £10,000 he would shred was equivalent to every £1 million the former footballer would reportedly receive from Qatar.
If Beckham failed to withdraw his support from the country, then the LGBTQ+ football charities that Lycett promised to donate to would not receive the money.

David has not publicly acknowledged Joe’s threat.
Qatar also had criticism for players having to perform in desert heat and same-sex relationships resulting in imprisonment or death.
Though there were doubts on whether the comedian would follow through with his word, Joe posted a live stream on www.BenderLikeBeckham.com where he proceeded to shred the money as promised.
